LANDI KOTAL: Eight dealers of polythene bags were arrested and around 39,000 bags seized during raids on different shops in Landi Kotal and Bara on Wednesday.

Assistant commissioner Mohammad Imran along with police officials conducted raids on business centres where some traders had stored 25,000 polythene bags in violation of the ban on use of such packing material.

Similar raids were also conducted in Bara with the police recovering 14,000 plastic bags.

The police arrested five traders in Landi Kotal and another three in Bara and sent them to lockup.

Officials, meanwhile, claimed to have distributed about 100,000 biodegradable shopping bags among the local shopkeepers. They said that the ban on use of polythene bags was imposed before Ramazan.
