QUETTA July 20: Minority activists of the Muhafiz Pakistan Panel staged a demonstration against the Hasba bill and called upon minority MPAs to express solidarity with their fellow community. The protesters, who assembled in front of local press club on Wednesday, were holding placards inscribed with slogans “The law will create chaos” and “Secular and nationalist forces should join hands to protect the fundamental rights of citizens”.
Rafiq Sardar (PML-Q), Jafar George (PPPP), Sadiq Massih (PMAP) and ex-minority
councillors Khalil Bhutto and Sohail James spoke on the occasion.
They said enactment of the Hasba bill would foment extremism and hatred in the society, as progenitors of the new law would interpret the statute according to their political ideas and contrary to the constitution.
They emphasized that to strengthen democracy and promote amiable environment in the society the MMA leadership should review its decision to respect the majority people aspiration or else their unilateral steps would harm political institutions.
They also stressed upon the government to take all measures to stop implementation of the proposed law in order to uphold supremacy of the constitution.
