Bagh-i-Malir

Published June 10, 2019

FOR more than 25 years, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has disconnected water supply lines connected to homes in Bagh-i-Malir. The sewerage services are also regularly quite irregular.

Still the water authority has been issuing bills and getting paid regularly.

This man-made water scarcity problem created by the KWSB has forced residents to regularly purchase water from the tanker mafia to fulfill their basic needs.

Those who pay their bills regularly are exhausted by following-up on the matter with the KWSB’s Malir office.

I do not understand why this neighbourhood in particular has no water while the rest of the city has relatively easy access to it. This is discrimination.

When approached, the KWSB claims that the water supply has been interrupted by the K-IV or some other excuse. But how is it possible that only Bagh-i-Malir suffers?

The irony of the situation is that the KWSB looks at people who regularly pay bills and those who evade bills in the same way — with an eye closed.

I request the prime minister and governor of Sindh to look into this issue and help us as soon as possible.
