KARACHI, July 20: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has said that the establishment of an industrial park and provision of cheaper plots under the fast track system by the Port Qasim Authority for the promotion of industrial activities is an appreciative step and industrialists should take advantage of it.

Chairing a high-level meeting at the Governor’s House here on Wednesday with reference to Port Qasim industrial plots, the Sindh governor asked the

PQA chairman and other officials to resolve the problems of industrialists interested in investment.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Babar Ghouri, Port Qasim Chairman Saleem Meenai, Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, Sindh Industries Secretary Nasir Hayat and other officials of the Port Qasim and heads and representatives of various industrial estates.

KATI Chairman Abdul Haseeb Khan, Site Association Chairman Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Mian Zahid Hussain, Majyd Aziz and others drew the attention of the governor towards a point that despite a lapse of many years, the applicants for industrial plots had not been given plots, while overseas Pakistanis also failed to get plots despite depositing amount.

They said complaints were many and the PQA should be directed to redress the same and also ensure allotment of plots.

Senator Babar Ghouri, however, disputed with the complainants and informed the meeting that allotments had been given to 102 applicants under the fast track system, while 60 to 65 more allotments were about to be made. He said the amount thereof was coming into the government kitty.

Mr Ghouri admitted that there was a problem of water and the government was taking steps for its supply, but industrialists would have to take a decision for the installation of desalination plant by themselves.

Responding to complaints, the governor made it clear that the industrialists should only fulfil legal terms and conditions, and if anyone from the Port Qasim demanded for additional money, the same should be brought to his notice and such people would not be shown any leniency.

The PQA chairman assured the industrialists that his doors were always open and if anyone encountered any problem, he could meet him or the Port Qasim director general directly. —APP
