PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan here on Saturday announced cash compensation for the dead and wounded persons of Khar Kamar checkpost incident in North Waziristan tribal district.

According to a statement, the government would pay Rs2.5 million for each dead person while every injured would get Rs1 million compensation. This is the highest cash compensation to be paid to the civilians in the province. An armed clash between the security forces and supporters of Pakhtun Tahaffuz Movement at Khar Kamar checkpost had left 13 people dead and 25 others, including five soldiers, injured.

The chief minister said that elements who were doing politics in the name of Pakhtuns would not succeed to indulge them (Pakhtuns) in another war. He said that such politics was not acceptable.

He said that peace had been restored due to matchless sacrifices of the security forces and citizens, adding that the government would take all steps for maintenance of peace in the province. He said this was prime responsibility of the government to resolve genuine problems of the people and fulfil their basic needs.

The chief minister said that the leadership at the provincial and federal governments was in the hands of Pakhtuns and they were making sincere efforts to address their issues. He said that the present government had resolved major issues of the people of merged districts during the last 10 months.

He said that around 28,000 personnel of Levies and Khasadars had been inducted in the police force.
