Fawad Chaudhry's inappropriate joke about Pakistan's cricket coach didn't make us laugh

Minister of Science and Technology tweeted he's worried about Mickey Arthur as we're still mourning Bob Woolmer's death
25 May, 2019

As a nation, we're obsessed with cricket.

And we know that sometimes when cricket fever hits, sports banter can get intense, even personal. Like, when Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry tweeted a highly inappropriate joke after Afghanistan beat Pakistan by three wickets in a World Cup warm-up match:

"I'm concerned about Mickey Arthur [our current cricket coach], we still haven't stopped grieving Bob Woolmer," he wrote.

It's pretty unbecoming of a minister to make such insensitive "jokes" about former Pakistan cricket coach, Woolmer, who died suddenly after Pakistan was eliminated from the 2007 World Cup. It's also a pretty rude thing to say to someone who's alive, that you're concerned about their mortality.

Thankfully, some Twitter users also called him out on the crass nature of his tweet:

One fails to understand that why Mr. Fawad is always in the news for wrong reasons. He is bent upon proving the universal truth that the though the tongue is very small but it can take you to greatest heights and it can also put you in the lowest depths. Accordingly, by uttering consistently such diatribes, which has become his trademark , let us face the fact that he always is close to prove him in the later category..

At least FC is consistent. It's as if he is on a mission to show how little merit and decency matter in this naya pakistan. All that matters is to stay in the news.

He is the minister for science and technology. He tweeted his tweet meant for the parallel universe that he resides in. Accidentally surfaced in our universe. Take a chill pill folks.

Now we know removing him from the previous ministry was a sound idea. The guy has relative no clue what and when to speak. Suggest he stick with managing the 5 yr lunar calendar. It will be a service to the nation in its own way.

That's some warning. Feeling sad a national coach is treated like this. So much of obsession in cricket, it's after all a sport and that too one that doesn't have more than 5 - 6 nations playing competitively. So it's not even a world sport
