SAHIWAL, July 18: The government college will soon be upgraded to university level and 43.5 acres adjacent to the college campus have been acquired for this purpose. This was said by District Coordination Officer Hamid Amjad Warraich in a meeting here on Monday. Giving details, the DCO said the district government had provided 18 acres while 25.5 acres under the use of remount department had also been acquired.
The present college campus has 105 acres. The total available land for the university will be 148.5 acres. The Bahauddin Zakaria University is already maintaining a sub-campus at the Sahiwal Government College.
The DCO said construction work would soon be started.
On this occasion, education EDO Dr Anwar Ahmed, Assistant-Director Zakia Mansoor and others were also present.
The people of Sahiwal have been demanding establishment of the university since long.
DIRECTIVE: The chief election commissioner has directed the returning officers to ensure that no office-bearer of a political party could take part in the local bodies elections.
According to insiders the CEC gave the order to ensure party-less election as announced by the government. He ordered the returning officers to ensure that the office-bearer has tendered resignation from his party office before contesting election.
Violators would be disqualified, the CEC added.
Meanwhile, 225 candidates filed their nomination papers against 979 seats of general councillors, women councillors and farmers at the district level.
In Chichawatni tehsil, which has 37 union councils and 407 seats of general councillors, 87 candidates filed their papers on Monday.
