LAHORE: Inspector General of Punjab Police (IGP) retired Capt Arif Nawaz says image of the force in the eyes of the citizens cannot be improved without providing the best facilities of public service.

He was addressing the media while visiting a Khidmat Markaz at Minar-i-Pakistan on Saturday.

Capital City Police Officer BA Nasir, DIG Operations Ashfaque Ahmad Khan, CTO retired Capt Liaqat Malik and other senior officers were also present.

The CCPO briefed the IGP on the achievements and performance of Khidmat Marakaz.

The newly-appointed IGP had started providing services to the public by establishing Khidmat Marakaz in every district of the province. The programme would also be expanded to the tehsil level by establishing first Khidmat Markaz in tehsil Rahim Yar Khan.

Fourteen kinds of services that would be provided at these Khidmat centres, including character certificate, driving licence, learner licence, medico-legal report, and complaint of anything lost or snatched, application of any record and its verification and ID card lost report. All the facilities would be provided to the citizens without visiting any police station.

A 12-member team of highly qualified officials was deputed to run the affairs at each Khidmat Markaz. The centre would work in two shifts from 9am to 12 midnight.

The IGP said the Khidmat Marakaz were started to provide the citizens quick service and it would also save time and money of the citizens who would not have to visit their native towns or districts to get the abovementioned facilities.

“We have laid the foundation of community policing and all the officials and officers should ensure that during their duty, preference should be given to the convenience and facility of the public,” IGP Nawaz said.

He further said that if a citizen facing any problem at Khidmat Marakaz regarding their standards or service he could register his complaint with IGP complaint cell at 8787.

Mr Malik briefed the IGP on the traffic signals test for driving licence and informed about launching a pilot project to computerise the license from Lahore.
