KARACHI, July 17: About 70 per cent of those who die in fire incidents in the country lose their lives mainly because they do not have proper awareness to deal with the situation.

This was observed by Tariq Moeen, Secretary of the Fire Protection Association of Pakistan, while speaking at the “Fire Safety and Road Safety” training programme organized by the Young Fishermen’s Sports & Training Centre, Younusabad, here on Sunday.

He was of the view that awareness of fire safety and extinguishing methods could save many precious lives.

Mr Moeen said that majority of population was absolutely unaware of the methods to extinguish fire. The proper awareness, he added, could help people put out fire quickly and prevent it from spreading. This could save people from being hurt or suffer losses.

A demonstration on how to use extinguishers and control fire was also held on the occasion. The participants were shown a documentary on firefighting as part of their training.

Saeed Jadoon, KPT Fire Officer presented suggestions on ways and means to douse the fire on boats. He advised fishermen to carry along fire extinguishers whenever they were on a fishing trip.

Naseem Ahmed, representative of the Edhi Foundation, made his presentation on rescue operations in sea. An official of PIA made a firefighting demonstration.

A large number of fishermen, students, sportsmen and other people attended the training programme.—PPI
