KARACHI, July 17: Police have announced to carry out a campaign from next Saturday against people riding motorcyclists without a valid driving licence and against underage motorbike riders.

It was decided to detain the motorcycles in case of above mentioned violations.

The decision to this effect was made at a meeting, held under the chairmanship of IGP Asad Jehangir Khan at Central Police Office. The meeting was convened in view of concern expressed by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz during his recent visit to Karachi and the decision was taken as measure of pro-active policing approach.

Asad Jehangir observed that ongoing research about street crimes had revealed that young motorcyclists were involved in majority of the cases. He asked the CCPO to plan a workable strategy to check underage motorcyclists by detailing motorcycle police squads comprising of police personnel of anti-car lifting cell, operations and traffic branches.

He issued strict directives that detained motorcycles be released only after producing original registration by the owner of the motorcycles in question.

The IGP also directed to establish a complaint cell with main/zonal offices of the CPLC in order to entertain public complaints, if any, in this regard. Besides, public be informed through press regarding action taken and results achieved on daily basis, he added.—PPI
