LAHORE: As many as 165 power distribution feeders tripped due to thunderstorm, leaving many parts of Lahore and adjoining districts without electricity for hours on Monday.
Reports said the thunderstorm disrupted electricity supply in Gulberg, Johar Town, Raiwind, Shahdra, Babu Sabu, Bund Road, Jail Road, Township, Ferozepur Road and some parts of Kasur and Sheikhupura.
According to Lesco, thunderstorm caused tripping of 11kV feeders, leaving various areas without light with temporary power suspension. “However, the teams gradually succeeded in energising various feeders after the intensity of thunderstorm weakened,” said an official.
Earlier, Lahore and some other parts of Punjab witnessed moderate to heavy rain on Monday, breaking the spell of heatwave.
The Met office has forecast partly cloud weather with possible rainfall in various parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the next 24 hours.
According to officials, 4 to 10mm of rain was recorded at various spots in Lahore including airport and Gulberg (5mm), Mughalpura (4mm), Chowk Nakhuda and Farrakahabad (6mm), Upper Mall and Iqbal Town (7mm), Lakshmi and Paniwala Talab (8mm) and Gulshan-i-Ravi, Samanabad and Johar Town (10mm).
Hafizabad received 3mm, Joharabad (1mm), Sargodha (1mm), Murree (21mm), Balakot (9mm), Kakul (4mm), Muzaffarabad (1mm), Malam Jabba (8mm) and Kasur (9mm). Faisalabad also received light shower.
