THE recent action by security forces, under the National Action Plan, to weed out militant outfits has received appreciation and support not only from civil society but from the international community as well. It will do the country good as Pakistan has been struggling with a negative image of hosting militants for long.

In my opinion such measures by the government, though vital, are for the most part generic. The security agencies are yet to define their do’s and don’ts to handle such groups. This is all the more important as the Financial Action Task Force has asked Pakistan to take tangible action against the militant outfits within the country if it wants to stay off the black list and Islamabad has little choice in the matter.

One hopes and prays that Pakistan continues on the right track as this is the only route towards peace, progress and prosperity for the nation.
