GUJRAT: The acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gujrat, Prof Dr Faheem Malik, has recommended his own name for the post of pro vice-chancellor of the UoG. Dr Malik is already a candidate for the regular VC seat, where the process for selection is already going on under the Higher Education Department.

The varsity administration has recommended the names of three senior most professors for the post. They are Prof Dr Faheem Malik, professor of zoology and dean faculty of sciences, Prof Dr Farsihullah, professor of mass communication and dean faculty of arts and Prof. Dr Muhammad Suleman Tahir, professor of chemical engineering and dean faculty of engineering.

Registrar Dr Tahir Aqeel, through a letter sent to the Higher Education Department last month, has recommended these names with the approval of the acting VC.

According to the section 14-A(1) of UoG Act 2004, the chancellor shall nominate the pro-VC from among three senior most professors of the university for a term of three years.

Prof Dr Malik is also a candidate for regular VC

The position has been lying vacant since the inception of the UoG in 2004.

The registrar has also sent a detailed working paper regarding the seniority of the aforementioned professors and the HED has been asked to forward the names to the chancellor/governor for the approval under the relevant provisions of the act.

Last month, the higher education department had stopped the acting VC from holding the meeting of syndicate that has been pending since June last year due to some controversies involving senior administrative and academic staff.
