PEKING: People’s China yesterday [May 10] lodged a strong protest with India against incessant border violations and has given the warning that she will hit back if such incidents continue.

A protest Note was handed to the Indian Charge d’Affaires in Peking yesterday. It said Indian planes had intruded into Chinese air space on many occasions recently and even penetrated deep into the Chinese territory. The Note also accused Indian troops of carrying out large scale manoeuvres in Sikkim. It said Indian military personnel had incessantly intruded into Chinese territory by crossing the Sino-Sikkim boundary. It said the recent visit to the Sino-Indian border by the Indian Army Chief of Staff was aimed at creating tension along the border.

The Chinese Government described as an out and out fabrication the Indian charge that Chinese troops at Natu-La ordered the Indian troops on April 23 and 24 to leave the frontier area within 24 hours. A responsible member of the First Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, according to the New China News Agency, yesterday made an appointment to meet Mr B.C. Mishra, Charge d’Affaires ad Interim of the Indian Embassy in China, during which he lodged a strong protest with the Indian Government against its vilifications against China and its acts of provocation ... — Agency
