KARACHI, July 16: The secretaries of senate and national and provincial assemblies at a meeting, held here at Sindh Assembly building on Saturday, unanimously agreed on the draft of CPA Asia Region Constitution. At the 50th Commonwealth Parliamentarians Association (CPA) conference in Canada last year, it was decided that Asia region should be bifurcated into two regions namely India region (the whole of India as one region) and Asia region comprising Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

To consider the draft of the constitution for Asia region, a conference was later convened by the Sri Lankan parliament secretariat. From Pakistan, the representatives of the national branch attended the meeting while there was no representative from the four provinces.

Therefore, it was decided by the senate and national assembly secretariat that another meeting of all national and provincial assemblies be convened to arrive at national consensus regarding ratification of the draft of CPA Asia Region Constitution.

In this regard, a meeting was held at the assembly building where all the secretaries agreed on the draft constitution.

The meeting was attended by Mohammad Rafiq, secretary NA; Raja Mohammad Amin, acting secretary of senate; Karamat Hussain, additional secretary NA; Feroz Khan DG NA; Saeed Ahmed, secretary Punjab assembly; Amanullah Khan, additional secretary NWFP assembly; Anwar Lehri, secretary Balochistan assembly; Hamdi Bukhsh Burio, secretary Sindh assembly; Amjad Pervaiz, deputy secretary (IPR) senate; and Mujeeb Ahmed Juejo, deputy secretary Sindh assembly. —PPI
