KARACHI: Over 55,000 policemen would perform duty under the ‘Ramazan contingency plan’ to maintain law and order in the province.

“As many as 55,700 policemen and officers will perform their duties during Ramazan across Sindh,” said a police spokesperson.

Inspector General of Police Syed Kaleem Imam while reviewing police reports directed the officers to ensure implementation of the contingency plan by taking concrete and effective measures in order to protect life and property of citizens during the holy month.

According to a Karachi police report, there are 4,215 mosques and other open places for prayers and Taravih and 27,000 policemen, including personnel of the traffic police, would perform their duty at these spots.

Policemen on over 500 police mobiles and 662 motorbikes would patrol the city streets and conduct snap-checking. To ensure the smooth flow of traffic on main roads in the city, as many as 7,380 traffic police would perform their duty.
