THIS is with reference to the article ‘The Haroon story’ (April 27). The personality of Haji Sir Abdullah Haroon arouses respect. His contribution to the Pakistan Movement will be remembered as long as Pakistan exists.
Now our politicians are professional, and very few look on Pakistan as a reward from God. The PPP and the PML-N think and treat Pakistan as their inherited property and do no tread the path of selfless leaders like Haroon, Jinnah, Liaquat Ali Khan or Sardar Abdul Rab Nashtar whose untiring efforts contributed to the creation of Pakistan.

Sovereignty is indeed a reward and it is equally applied to every individual and all establishments in the country.
Why only single out politicians and expect uprightness from them.
How many among us take independence as a reward as reflects behaviour and conduct.
And, more interestingly does sovereignty has paid off to common citizens.
Just recalling a single incident would be of some interest.
Some time back a BBC team visited our country to prepare documentery on history of laying down rail roads during British Raj.
In Punjab they interviewed elderly ordinary folks in country side and asked them as they were more happy in colonial days or in present times. There answer surprised the team when they expressed their desire to have colonialists here once again.
