LAHORE: Thieves stole cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs60 million from the house of a businessman in Defence on Thursday.

Police said the thieves broke into the residence of Husnain Haider, owner of Royal Palm Golf and Country Club, in Y Block, spent an hour or so there when his mother was alone. They stole Rs1.9m, 1,300-tola gold ornaments amounting to Rs40.8m and six sets and 10 rings of diamond worth Rs15m.

Husnain told reporters he with his other family members was out of home while his elderly mother and some employees were back in home.

He said the thieves entered the house from the backside by unlocking the door and apparently they were familiar to the routine of the residents. They came to know about the incident once the family returned home, he said.

The police lodged a theft case against unidentified thieves.
