Do the Instagram worthy desserts from Shori actually taste good? We find out

The dessert place has been doing rounds on social media thanks to their taiyaki and slushies served in unicorn floats.

If you haven't heard of Shori, you've probably seen their creations.

Their desserts have been making the rounds on social media for being Instagram worthy. By now we know that what looks good on the internet doesn't always translate onto the tastebuds so we had to go see what the fuss was about ourselves.

Shori, which is open from 3pm till 11pm on weekdays and till midnight on the weekends is a tiny little unicorn themed joint on Bukhari in Karachi; the cafe is small but they've done a lot decor wise. It's got colourful walls and cute knick-knacks scattered all over the place. Orders take 15 minutes or so but they mention that while taking the order and also on their signboard so it's good we got a heads up.

Taiyaki

Taiyaki is a Japanese fish-shaped cake that's usually filled with red bean paste, though you can get creative with the fillings. At Shori, we tried the taiyaki cone with Oreo soft serve.

While the ice cream was smooth and taiyaki cone itself was airy and delicious, we felt like the price point was too high. We just felt it wasn't worth Rs400.

Yay or nay: Nay, nothing special.

What-A-Melon soft serve

This one's only for real watermelon enthusiasts!

The soft serve was presented in an actual watermelon slice with chocolate chips posing as seeds; cool idea that stands out and the flavour was on point, we'll give them props for that but again, at Rs550, it felt like it was more expensive than it should be.

Yay or nay: Yay! The taste was spot on so we definitely recommend this, even though the price is a little steep.

Unicorn Floatie with Taro Slushie

We were intrigued by the taro slush for two reasons: the fact that it came with a unicorn float and because we haven't seen that on a menu anywhere else here.

That said, we were disappointed. While it's a super Instagrammable dessert, the slush itself was actually tasteless. You get to keep the floatie so there's that but we don't think it's good value for money for Rs950, not even with the works like whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles!

Yay or nay: Pass, there's better desserts in town.
