Hadiqa Kiani has had enough of your ageist comments

The idea that you're supposed to just die/be locked up inside as a woman over 35 needs to end in this country, she wrote
Updated 24 Apr, 2019

Hadiqa Kiani believes age is just a number and has had it with trolls and their cruel comments.

When a woman commented on one of her Instagram posts saying, "Aunty, ab tumhari Allah Allah karne ki age hai", Kiani took to Insta stories to share her frustration and give her two cents on the matter.

She started off with explaining how she was disappointed that these ageist comments always seem to come from other women: "Very unfortunate that the ageist hater comments always come from girls. I've blocked out her name because I don't want anyone bullied but we have to do a better job raising our daughters to love themselves and other women."

The singer added, "Heads up ladies, you're all going to age, you're all going to gain a few pounds or lose a few pounds, get a few wrinkles and despite your success and independence, society will try to judge you and tell you to conform to their standards. But at least as women, we can't limit one another any longer."

She went on to say that women should stop letting society dictating the way they live their lives and become aware of the sexism we seem to have internalised, which pits women against one another.

"The idea that you're supposed to just die and get locked in a house after age 35 as a woman in this country needs to end. If Allah gives me the energy, strength and motivation to be this active when I'm 55, 65 or 75 and if I want to be this active, then I will," she wrote.

"Love one another and uplift one another. It's the least you can do because one day, you'll be the one needing support and no one will be there for you."

She signed off with this little piece of advice:

I'm so so glad you guys took this up and covered it! Hadiqa's one legendary singer who's done everything gracefully: singing, carrying herself, speaking, general behaviour etc. I was deeply saddened and angry at this comment that she has highlighted. Loving and supporting what she has written on her insta story!

As an artist Hadqia Kiani is just getting better and better with age. Moreover, Punjabis should appreciate what she is doing to keep our language and culture alive.

Our society is ageist. It is heavily propagated in our culture and even media. A drama serials premise was a younger guy wanting a woman older than him. The age gap? 2 years.!!! Funny nobody seems to point to men and their ages. Age is a number and no society should define your age or your sense of youth. Ignore ageists.

Good to know that she called out a woman who called her out for ageist comments but kept her identity confidential. If it was a man, all hell would break loose and he would have been vilified. In case of a woman calling out a man for his looks/age, it is considered funny (not ageist/sexist). People should be consistent in terms of standing up for a principle.

Kudos to you. 30s is the age when individuals actually develop self awareness and self acceptance....infact that is the time when you start figuring out your priorities, direction and goals. In my view 30s is when you actually start becoming a productive and contributing member of the society.

IT is a fact that ageing makes men and women insecure. So, why fight it. Just accept that you are old and not young. It is not about being good or bad. It is what it is.

Hadeeqa, You are pretty, talented and young looking. Why you need to feel inferiority complex. People can say any thing. Keep on. Be confident and do your job that the creator has made you for. I do not know Punjabi but I still enjoy your songs in Punjabi. This should tell you that there are millions of people who enjoy your talent.

That’s why we have shorter lifespan compared to other regions as we suck the life out of people who are aged.

@jaredlee007 issue is not about being old or not being old. Issue occurs when an individual is expected to work within preconceived stereotyped limits. If an individual has energy and an active body to work ,why is there a need to push that person into boundaries?
