LAKKI MARWAT: Local bodies’ representatives have asked the government to allocate funds for repair and rehabilitation of the potholed Tajazai-Darra Tang Road.

Talking to journalists on Tuesday, they said the busy road was in deteriorating condition and recent heavy rains had badly damaged it.

“The road is filled with ditches and craters,” said a former nazim Asmatullah Khan. He said the portion of the road from Tajazai to Lakki city was in bad condition causing nuisance for motorists. “The public transport vehicles use the road to go to district headquarters complex, Tajazai, Bannu and DI Khan districts,” he maintained, adding a bridge near Wanda Arsala had been closed for traffic due to its bad condition.

Another LG member said Pakhtunkhwa Highway Authority had built a dirt track on a rainwater course along the damaged bridge to ensure plying of vehicles between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. He said prompt measures were needed to be taken to repair the bridge.

They regretted that they had repeatedly highlighted bad condition of road and bridges, but the quarters concerned took no interest. They also held lawmakers responsible for poor road infrastructure and asked them to fulfill the election promises made with the people.

SHOT DEAD: A teenage boy was killed in Chuharkhel village of Darra Pezu town, police said on Tuesday.

They said Naveed Ahmad, 16, was shot dead by unknown killers and his body was thrown in fields.

Astan Ahmad, father of the deceased, told police that he learnt about the killing of his son from relatives. He said the body of Naveed was dumped near Chuharkhel village.

Police said the complainant had no enmity with anyone and that they had registered a case against unknown killer(s).

TREE PLANTATION: Students and teachers of working folk’s grammar higher secondary school, Naurang, took part in a tree plantation activity on the premises of the school on Tuesday.

The institution’s principal Amanullah Khan inaugurated the activity by organising an awareness walk in the locality. He said dream of making Pakistan green could become true through concerted efforts.

He said teachers and students had a responsibility on their part to raise awareness about tree plantation.
