It's been eight years since Moin Akhtar passed away but his legacy is proof that he may be gone but never forgotten.

Born on December 24, 1950, Moin Akhtar entered the entertainment industry in 1966 when his parody performance as popular actor Muhammad Ali shot him into the limelight.

After this there was no stopping Akhtar. His long-standing double act with writer Anwar Maqsood in Loose Talk made him an idol, and when Bushra Ansari joined them the resulting comedy was matchless.

Talking about his father, Sharjeel Akhtar wrote, "It is difficult to do justice to his charismatic, larger-than-life presence with mere words. Moin Akhtar the extroverted performer, was extravagant, exuberant, highly social, and enjoyed the finer things in life. Moin Akhtar the introvert, was humble, silent, preferred solitude, and was deeply satisfied by the simpler things in life."

In honour of his memory, here are 6 of some of his most iconic roles/characters that will live on forever:

Family 93

Akhtar took on the role of Nasir, the unemployed son of a police informant who aspires to be an artist, much to his father's dismay. We can never forget his comic touch mixed with the love of poetry.

Rozi

As Miss Rozi
As Miss Rozi

Rozi, a drama produced by STN (Shalimar Television Network) and telecasted on PTV was an adaptation of the Hollywood flick, Tootsie and Akhtar's performance as Miss Rozi Haroon won him critical acclaim.

Half Plate

Moin played Mirza in Anwar Maqsood's Half Plate, a poet and the whole drama was staged on a single set, a room in a weary house. The cast included some of the greatest names of Pakistan’s television industry including Latif Kapadia, Khalida Riasat and Jamshed Ansari.

Such Much

As Seth Manzoor Danawala

In Such Much, the comedian played Seth Manzoor Danawala, a landlord looking for the perfect tenants: must be a family. It has that classic wit we all love.

Eid Train

Eid Train was a super hit hilarious Eid day special drama, starring Akhtar, Durdana Butt, Ghazala Kafi, Mahmood Ali and Subhani Ba Yunus.

Aangan Terha

Even though Akhtar only had a recurring guest role in the satirical play, he made it in his own.

There were several stage shows and interviews conducted by Moeen which are master pieces. There was one with Dilip Kumar which has some very potent lessons.

I would rate his Drama Serial "Rafta Rafta" amongst the top performances of his career; unfortunately, the golden and extremely funny drama serial is nowhere to be found which is very sad.

In late 70's , when I was in school, he wrote on my autograph book " mar gaye tou bohot yaad karegi dunya." And he was so right, he is no more with us but he is alive in our memories. May Allah swt rest his soul in peace.

I don’t claim to know Moin Akhtar personally, but I did have a brief interaction with him. I grew up in Aram Bagh Karachi area where Moin used to visit one of our common friends; an heir of then famous Delhi Kali Hotel. It was early 1966; and he was still struggling but rising artist. Another friend who was a student union office bearer at a college booked Moin for their annual function and advanced him Rs.10.00. Later on an argument ensued where this rich but arrogant friend unjustifiably insulted Moin. Moin looked at me; I felt terrible but didn’t have the courage to contain my rich friend. Moin shook our hands and left with teary eyes. Next encounter with Moin was in late 90s at a SKM Hospital fund raiser. I was standing in the lobby with my wife; Moin was rushing out of the main hall and suddenly our eyes met; he hesitated but still passed by. He then turned around and came back; at that time I said yes we have a past with each other and uttered the word Aram Bagh. Continue..

Continue ...... He smiled and we warmly shook hands; he gave me a light hug and said yes I remember it very well. We had a small talk about our families; then he said I will be right back and rushed towards the elevator but didn’t let my hand go. We went outside where he wanted to have a smoke. I advised him to quit smoking; he looked at me and said “ye zalim nahi chut-tee”. We went back upstairs where he disappeared in the crowd and I never saw him again. May he rest in peace.
