GUJRAT: A lawyer was gunned down by two unidentified motorcyclists near Makiana village in Daulatnagar police precincts on Tuesday night.

Police said Malik Maqsood left his village Makiana along with his wife and children at around 11.30pm on Tuesday for his house in city’s Sultanpura locality when two motorcyclists intercepted his car and opened fire, leaving him dead on the spot.

However, the other family members in the car remained unhurt whereas the assailants fled the scene.

Police later shifted the body to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

Police have registered a case against the unidentified suspects under section 302 of Pakistan Penal Code on the report of Abdul Ghani, the father of the deceased lawyer.

Meanwhile, Gujrat District Bar Association President Shamshad Malhi and Secretary Adnan Siddique condemned the brutal murder of their colleague who, they said, had been among the decent members of the legal fraternity of Gujrat.

Lawyers across the region observed a complete strike on Wednesday against the murder of their colleague.
