Misplaced focus

Published April 16, 2019

THIS refers to the letter ‘BD, Indian economies’ (April 10) by Kunwar Idris. Pakistan has put all its eggs in one basket by handing over the economy to IMF pundits. Both Bangladesh and India have followed their own model of development and relied on homegrown solution.

It is true had Bengalis remained a part of this nation, they would have suffered the same fate we are facing – low growth, rising unemployment, high inflation, rocketing utility bills, weak currency, excessive debt burden, rise in illiteracy, deteriorating standard of education etc.

Instead of focusing on manufacturing, we have turned to trading and real estate business, causing deindustrialisation which is a death knell for any economy.
