GUJRANWALA, July 12: The government will constitute separate courts for swift disposal of imprisoned women’s cases, while the innocent inmates will be provided legal aid. This was stated by provincial parliamentary secretary for social welfare Ms Shehla Shahid Butt during her visit to the central jail here on Tuesday. Ms Butt visited women’s barrack in the jail to know about the problems being faced by the inmates. She assured them that the government wanted to get their cases settled through speedy trials, while separate courts would provide relief to them.

She said the children of the women inmates would be provided education and other facilities in the jail.

Superintendent Shaukat Feroze and other senior jail officers were also present on the occasion.

No infrastructure: Funds, staff and office buildings for the four new towns created in the city could not be provided by the government so far.

However, the process of preparing the lists of the city tehsil and Sadar councils’ employees has been started by the administration to absorb them in the new towns.

Reports said since the issuance of the notification pertaining to the division of the city into four towns, the district government was waiting for further directives from the Punjab government regarding the provision of infrastructure for the new arrangement.

District Finance and Planning Officer Shahid Bashir Virk confirmed that the provincial government had neither provided any funds for the purpose nor it issued any directive in this connection.

Assistant Director Local Government Khaqan Khawer Cheema said a proposal was under consideration to set up the new offices at the city tehsil council complex. However, it could not be finalized till the Punjab government’s directive, he added.
