LAHORE, Jan 12: Governor Khalid Maqbool said on Saturday 100,000 people had so far left border areas of the Punjab following the escalation of tension between India and Pakistan.
Talking to newsmen after the Lahore College for Women convocation, he said a majority of the displaced people were joining their relatives in different areas.
“The government will also set up camps for the DPs if the need be,” the governor told a questioner.
He said a proposal to declare border areas as calamity hit was under consideration.
MEDICAL UNIVERSITY: Maqbool said the government was considering a proposal to establish the Punjab university of health sciences as well as a medical university to upgrade and streamline medical education.
However, the matter was currently on papers and might take a couple of months to get a final shape.
AUTONOMY RULES: The governor said work to frame rules and regulations governing autonomous medical colleges and attached teaching hospitals was in final stages.
“I will not hesitate in approving the final draft as soon as I get it,” he said.
MEDICINES: Answering another question, the governor said that there was no shortage of medicines in any hospital in the province. He said no patient had so far complained him during his visit to hospitals that he was not given medicines.
