ISLAMABAD: Three young men were arrested for allegedly firing at a school while a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination was going on inside on Tuesday.

Police said three people in a car began firing at the wall of the Sameul Tariq Shaheed Model School for Boys in G-8/1. They also stopped in front of the main gate, fired multiple shots into the air, and left.

Many students were in the school at the time sitting for an SSC exam, police said. They added that the situation inside the school remained under control.

The alleged shooters drove towards Jillani Market and fired into the air again, police said.

Under Superintendent of Police (Saddar) Malik Naeem Iqbal, a team began searching for the vehicle and the passengers, and assistance was also sought from the Safe City project. Three people were arrested after the vehicle and its passengers were identified.

Police said the gun was also recovered. They were all taken to the Karachi Company police station for further legal action.

A spokesperson for the police, Inspector Khalid Awan, said the three arrested were former students at the school. They live in G-8 and their fathers are grade 15 and 16 officials at the Capital Development Authority, he said.

He added that the reason behind the firing has not yet been established, but they may have done it for fun.
