KARACHI: Jeweller shot dead

KARACHI, Jan 12: Bandits shot a man to death and wounded another on Saturday at a jeweller’s shop in Mehmoodabad.

The police said that bandits entered a jeweller’s shop in street No 4 in Azam Basti for robbery. As the shopowner, Yasin Ghaffar, aged 27, and his younger brother Rauf Ghaffar, aged 19, put up resistance to the bandits, they became panicky and opened fire on the brothers. Both the brothers suffered bullet wounds and were rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced Yasin dead on arrival. Rauf was stated to be in serious condition.

The police could not ascertain immediately whether the bandits had escaped with the loot, or it was a bungled robbery.

KILLED: A 38-year-old man was killed in a petty dispute in New Karachi on Saturday.

The police said that Mohammed Akram Bagh had an argument with someone in Khamiso Goth, which turned into a violent scuffle. As a result of which Akram died. His body was shifted to a hospital where doctors said there was no apparent indication which could suggest the cause of death. The viscera were sent for laboratory tests and the final cause of death would be declared after the receipt of the reports of histopathological examination and chemical test.

DIES: A seven-year-old boy died when a shuttering at an under-construction building fell on him in Zaman Town, Korangi, on Saturday.

The police said that Imran, resident of PNT Colony, was walking near an under-construction building in Zaman Town, when a shuttering fell on him. He suffered serious head injuries.
