RAWALPINDI: A man was founded dead on the bank of a nullah in the limits of City Police Station on Wednesday.

Passersby spotted the body wrapped in a sheet in Itihad Colony on City Saddar Road. They informed the police, who shifted the body to the District Heaquarters Hospital.

The murder victim, who appeared to be in his 30s and was shot in the head, was identified as Adeel Hussain, a Mirpur resident who was staying at a hotel at Fawara Chowk. A hotel room key was found in his pocket.

Sub-inspector Riaz Hussain, who is leading the investigation, told Dawn the victim was a dancer who had been staying at a private hotel. He left the hotel at around 9pm Tuesday and did not return.

He said the motive behind the murder has yet to be ascertained, although the victim’s family has said he had no enmities with anyone.

Mr Hussain said the initial investigation suggested the victim was killed by unidentified individuals somewhere else, and not where the body was found.

Meanwhile, an exchange of fire between Dolphin Force personnel and a man caused panic on Misryal Road, although no one was reported injured or killed.

Police said the shooting occurred after police at a check post signaled a motorcyclist to stop. The motorcyclist ignored the police, who in turn fired into the air following a brief chase. The man pulled out a pistol and fired into the air as well.

The police gave up chasing the shooter and he fled.
