PESHAWAR: Two persons were killed when an assailant opened fire on them near the Peshawar High Court over an enmity here on Monday.

Police officials said the incident took place at around 11.25am when an accused identified as Sameen Shah opened fire on a litigant, Raj Dad, a resident of Bakhshupul, when he was sitting in a cab after coming out of the court premises. Raj died on the spot, while a passerby identified as Zahoor, who was also caught in the firing, was taken to the Lady Reading Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries later in the day.

The officials said the accused was apprehended by police personnel near Bala Hisar Fort, a short distance from the crime scene after a brief chase. Police also recovered the weapon used in the double murder. The accused informed the police during initial investigations that motive of the murder was an old enmity with Raj Dad. Police registered FIR and started further investigations.

Meanwhile, city police chief Qazi Jamilur Rehman announced cash prize and commendation certificates for the cops who nabbed the fleeing suspect.
