Passer-by killed in cross-fire near Karachi's Tariq Road

KARACHI: A passer-by was killed and another injured after getting caught in cross-fire during an encounter between the Rangers and two alleged robbers near Tariq Road here on Monday. A Rangers soldier and one of the alleged robbers were also injured in the incident.

According to sources, the robbers were trying to snatch cell phone from a man. When they noticed that some Rangers personnel were moving towards them, they ran away and opened fire on them. The Rangers personnel returned fire.

The sources said both the passers-by were hit by bullets fired by the Rangers.

Both SSP East Azfar Mahesar and a Rangers spokesperson told Dawn that nothing could be said about the incident now and that they were collecting information.

The deceased was identified as Rab Nawaz, 35, and the injured as Tauqeer.

According to the sources, a police service card was found from the injured robber, identified as Ehsan Ilahi.
