KARACHI: A picnic party turned into a tragedy when three picnickers from Karachi drowned in the Hub dam in Balochistan on Thursday.

According to an Edhi Foundation spokesperson, the three men were swimming in the dam whose water level had substantially increased after recent rains. He said the incident occurred at around 3.20pm.

Edhi volunteers present at the site took out the bodies from the reservoir at about 4.30pm. The deceased were identified as Alam Hanif, 17; Waseem Sattar, 28; and Abid Gulab, 24. They all were residents of Karachi’s Gadap area.

It may be recalled that recent heavy rains and flash floods in Balochistan have increased the water level of the reservoir by 70 feet to reach at 348 feet. The Hub dam’s peak level is 349 feet.
