KARACHI: Protection of consumers’ rights is the responsibility of the government, as such the Sindh government has established 27 consumer courts across the province. They will become functional soon. The process of posting magistrates is under way and provision of other infrastructure is also being done.

This was stated by Adviser to the CM on Information and Law Murtaza Wahab while addressing a seminar held here on Thursday to mark World Consumers’ Rights Day.

He said that initially, complaints regarding food products and health-related items would be taken up on a priority basis.

He said the government was ready to introduce reforms in order to safeguard rights of consumers. He invited civil society organisations to pinpoint any flaws in the working of consumer courts.

In reply to a question, he said that all genuine demands of teachers would be accepted. He said they should remain in touch with the competent authorities.
