LAHORE: The westerly wave gave rain in Balochistan and Karachi on Sunday and the Met department said it was moving towards the upper parts of the country where it could produce heavy falls at places on Monday.

Weather remained cold and dry in most parts of the country on Sunday. However, rain occurred at isolated places in Quetta, Zhob, Makran, Kalat, Sibbi, Larkana and Sukkur divisions, while at isolated places in Karachi and D G Khan divisions.

Quetta received 36mm of rain, Sibbi 20, Kalat 16, Barkhan 12, Panjgur 4, Zhob, Ormara 3, Lasbella 2, Jaccobabad 5 and Moenjodaro 4. The met department said the fresh westerly wave is likely to persist over upper parts of the country till Monday (tonight).

It was likely to give widespread rain/thunderstorm (with isolated heavy falls) associated with gusty winds (snowfall over hills) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore, Faislabad divisions), Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir in the next 24 hours.

Cold and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country. Heavy rain may trigger landslides in Malakand, Hazara divisions, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir.
