PESHAWAR, July 6: NWFP Health Minister Inayatullah Khan has ordered speedy processing of the case of Trainee Medical Officers (TMOs) about increase in their stipend and immediate steps for solving their accommodation problems. He was presiding over a meeting held to discuss problems faced by TMOs here on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Health Abdus Samad Khan, Dean PGMI Prof Arshad Javed, Director General Health, Dr Jalilur Rahman, medical superintendent of LRH, KTH and HMC and representatives of TMOs.

The meeting deliberated over problems faced by the TMOs, including increase in stipend, accommodation facilities, security and compulsory training in districts.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the provincial government had taken record initiatives for facilitating health professionals, especially TMOs.

He went on to say that the government was generous in solving problems of the professionals. However, he clarified that the government would never bow down before those who were adopting illegal and indecent ways to get their problems solved.

He ordered administration of all teaching hospitals to give due status to TMOs and provide them facilities so that they could work comfortably.

He elaborated that compulsion of training for TMOs at the district level was a decision of the College of Physicians Surgeons and its sole aim was to strengthen DHQ hospitals.
