Model Eman Suleman calls out the entertainment industry for supporting sexual predators

"We talk about predators but we seldom talk about people who give these offenders more latitude," says the model

Eman Suleman has something to say to the Pakistani entertainment industry about sexual harassment.

In an Instagram post, the model voices her opinion regarding the industry's lenient behaviour towards those accused of sexual harassment and the repercussions that follow such complicity.

Eman said she felt the need to make her post after repeatedly seeing ads on YouTube which starred an alleged harasser. She did not name the person.

"Impossibly angry at fools (especially in this entertainment industry) who provide these accused harassers with a space which further gives them more latitude, and in turn, more power and influence... you’re encouraging the disgusting, vile behaviour they’ve been accused of, and also, encouraging others to do so by demonstrating that they can get away with it without any serious repercussions," she wrote under her post.

Says the model in her post: "There is no such thing as accountability in Pakistan especially if you are a person of power and influence. We talk about predators but we seldom talk about people who give these offenders a more latitude... after they've been accused of harassment."

Eman also wants the audience that follows these stars, and is wrapped up in the debate of who's telling the truth and who isn't, to stop concerning themselves with who's right or wrong.

"If you are so bothered by this then please take out the time to learn about these things and understand why this is so prevalent which we have seen through the Me Too movement. Think of ways to over come it. You aren't helping anyone when you pass comments while hiding behind a screen.

She ends her post saying, "Think of a solution. It's a long process but it has to start somewhere. Stop downplaying the harassment of men."

It is unfortunate that Women dont feel safe is this industry. Problem is some segments have used this as an excuse to harrass their male counterparts. At the end of the day, for any claim to be true, evidence matters.

Careful there isn’t much room for freedom of speech in Pakistan.

That’s the difference between us and the West. There the Harvey Weinstein’s, Bill Cosby’s and Kevin Stacey’s can be called to account. Here we sanctify our stars to godlike status incapable of doing any wrong. Quelle domage.

One thing is very clear and that is the reality of harassment of females in the entertainment industry, notwithstanding the fact that, those harassed enter the industry with clear understanding of its existence and accepting it unconditionally.

Innocent unit proven guilty is to protect the innocents. If not for this, then the law itself could and would be used to terrorize the innocents into succumbing to any demand. What is the alternative if we abandon of this axiom ?

@M. Saeed Absolutely nonsense. Nobody willing accepts to be molested or harssed sexually. Many think they can escape it. Many dont know and are naive. Many are just not strong enough to fight against it. And yes some will further their career at all costs. But stop painting all with the same brush. You make it sound like women shouldnt be in this industry. Oh wait now your true intentions come to light. Hey, lets just bar women from all public life. In fact lets make them sit at home, be home schooled and not exit their homes. Because harassment is prevalent even outside your front door on the streets, in the busy bazars, in offices, work places, hospitals even in your own home sometimes. Let me guess, fmales should onyl interact with female relatives?

@Yasir Well in Pakistan even the guilty ones walk free despite the mountain of evidence and witnesses against them. Are you new to Pakistan and its biased application of justice and law?

It's true, it's fact, it's like there is a prerequisite to entering the entertainment industry - from start to finish you will be proposed indecently. Stars and models are like the top salesmen in the world, they are at the heart of conducting sales by the millions, aren't they deserving of respect and protection? Think of the billions in sales, sales revenue and taxes lost just because the next megastar or supermodel was not able to make it because of the predetory nature of the industry. And it's not just the top teir, the assistants and the lower end fodder expect newbies to support this kind of corruption before there is any real progress. It is a disgusting scenario this entertainment business...true said, no amount of money or fame is worth it!
