HARIPUR: District police officer Zahidullah Jan has asked his subordinates to avoid subjecting arrested persons to torture and exhibit professionalism in pursuit of controlling crime in the district.

He was speaking to sub-divisional police officers and SHOs of all the police stations during the crime review meeting held here on Tuesday.

He said that crime control and maintenance of peace was the job of police force and they should exhibit professionalism.

The DPO asked the police officials to treat the people courteously, listen to their complaints and address them in line with the provisions of law without any delay and use of torture.

He said that basically the police was a people-friendly force tasked to enforce the law in the society.

He said that unless better working relationship was developed with general public the objective of tracing culprits, getting rid of the menace of drug selling and its use, firing in the air and other crimes could not be achieved.

He said that police officials found misbehaving with people, using torture or committing corruption would be punished while the best performing officials would be awarded cash prizes and given departmental acknowledgement.
