HARIPUR: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday de-notified Adil Islam as the district nazim of Haripur and declared the seat vacant.

The development comes in light of the passage of a no-confidence motion against the nazim by the district council on Jan 14.

Fifty-six members of the 68-strong district council had voted against Mr Islam as the members of PTI and its rival party, PML-N, joined forces.

Mr Islam got a brief relief from the Peshawar High Court’s divisional bench against his removal but his petition was dismissed on Jan 30.

The district council elected Raja Nasir Kiyani the officiating nazim by majority vote on Jan 17.
