ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken notice of the desecration of a Hindu temple in Khairpur, Sindh, and ordered an investigation so that those involved in the incident may be apprehended.
The prime minister in a tweet late on Tuesday night said that the incident was against the teachings of Islam and the Holy Quran.
Unidentified people recently attacked a Hindu temple in Khairpur district’s Kumb area and fled after setting statues and Hindu holy books on fire.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack which has been condemned by the Hindu community as well as local Muslims.
Prime Minister Khan said the Sindh government should take swift and decisive action against the perpetrators of the attack.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail also took notice of the incident after receiving a report from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MNA Jai Prakash Ukrani on Tuesday.
In a statement issued by Governor House, Mr Ismail said such incidents were part of a conspiracy to sabotage interfaith harmony prevailing in Sindh. “The government is making all-out efforts to ensure safety and security of the minorities,” he added.
According to media reports, MNA Ramesh Kumar, special adviser to the prime minister, went to Kumb on Tuesday along with the Sukkur commissioner, Khairpur deputy commissioner and Sukkur deputy inspector general of police to visit the temple and examine the damage caused to it.
