ISLAMABAD: Former minister Ijazul Haq on Saturday sought disqualification of his opponent, who won the NA-169 Bahawalnagar seat in the July 2018 elections, for allegedly concealing his work permit and bank accounts in the UAE.
Mr Haq, son of former military dictator Ziaul Haq, lost the polls from the constituency to Noorul Hassan Tanvir of the PML-N. Mr Tanvir bagged 91,763 votes against 72,461 votes of Mr Haq.
The petition filed in Islamabad High Court (IHC) claimed that Mr Tanvir was holding a valid Iqama of the UAE at the time of submission of his nomination papers to contest the elections.
The petition said Mr Tanvir did not disclose details of his UAE accounts while filing his nomination papers.
He requested the court to disqualify the lawmaker under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution for concealing material facts from the returning officer. The IHC will hear the petition next week.
