KARACHI, June 30: The Sindh Government has decided to organise ‘Discover Sindh’ road shows in big cities around the world to highlight the identity of Sindh historically, culturally, economically and from a tourism point of view. A meeting in this regard was held at the Governor’s House under the chairmanship of Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad.
It was decided in principle to organise road shows in Dubai, London, Manchester and other big cities.
Addressing the meeting, the governor said, “Nature has blessed Sindh with unlimited bounties and resources. There are many fields in which no advantage was taken of its available resources.”
He expressed hope not only Sindh, but the whole of Pakistan would benefit from these road shows.
He pointed out that complete protection was available to local and foreign investors whereas in Karachi.
Ibad said the historical places of Sindh, cultural and tourism centres, its coastal belt besides its natural resources, agriculture, education, industries and crafts had a great attraction in them for the whole world.
He suggested that by formulating a comprehensive plan and packages, the desired objectives could be attained. He asked for a report within a week after looking into all the aspects.
He hoped that through the road shows, Sindh could be introduced to the world in a successfully better way, adding that such programmes would also help boost investment, which would have positive impacts all over the country.
It was also decided that a committee, headed by Secretary Culture Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, would be set up.
The committee would submit its report after consultations with various sectors.
The same would be reviewed in the second meeting to be held under the governor’s chairmanship after which final shape would be given to the road show programmes.
Earlier Zohaib Hasan apprised the meeting about initial details of the programmes.
The meeting was attended by Provincial Ministers Shoaib Bukhari, Dr Hamida Khuhro, Secretary Culture Mehtab Rashdi, DG Ports and Shipping Capt Anwar Shah and other officials.
SECURITY REVIEWED: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan held yet another high level meeting on Wednesday night to review security and peace plans for the coming local bodies elections in Sindh.
He decided to hold meetings with all the stake-holders, individuals and groups, from all over the province, connected directly and indirectly with elections to implement a code of conduct.
Such a code, he said, would be the key to regulate the peace mechanism, enforcement of which would be strictly ensured.
The code of conduct, as laid down by the Chief Election Commissioner, would be publicized for candidates and their leaders so that no room for errors is left, the governor said.
It was decided that violators of the code would be punished without any fear or favour.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi, Information Advisor Salahuddin Haider, Principal Secretary to Governor Brig Akhtar Zamin, IGP Asad Jahangir, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Javed Zia, CCPO Karachi and other senior officials.
The Governor, for the past ten days, had been holding meetings almost daily on law and order with a view to having an exemplary arrangement for maintaining peace and tranquillity during the coming Local Government polls.—APP
