KARACHI, June 30: Various parts of the city on Thursday continued to experience acute water shortage in the current hot and sultry weather. The worst-affected localities included Singho Lane and Shah Waliullah Road in Lyari, Azizabad No 2, Mohammadi Colony, Gulbahar’s Waheedabad, Clifton’s Block 2, parts of PECHS Block 2, Korangi No 2½, Paposhnagar, North Karachi’s Sectors 11-C/1 and 11-C/2, Latif Nagar and Ranchore Lane’s Street No 3 near Sabri Masjid.

Residents of the affected localities especially of Ranchore Lane and Waheedabad deplored that although they were without water for the last fortnight, the KWSB officials concerned were taking no interest in restoring supply despite a number of complaints lodged with them.

They demanded of the KWSB’s managing director to instruct the officials to immediately rectify the fault and restore water supply, as they couldn’t afford to purchase water from private tankers, which were being sold at exorbitant rates.

LSR HYDRANT: The KWSB Managing Director, Brig Iftikhar Haider, on Thursday directed the board’s engineers to ensure that the water to be saved from the closure of the LSR hydrant was supplied to the water-deficient pockets of Saddar, Lyari, Jamshed and Gulshan towns.

He said the Rangers had already announced LSR hydrant’s closure from Thursday midnight. It had also made arrangements for adjusting the tankers, which were presently drawing water from the LSR, to other hydrants being run under their control.

During a visit to the hydrant, he asked the engineers concerned to immediately prepare a schedule for supplying water to other areas.
