DOT AND WALK
Dimpled doll Deepika Padukone’s struggle with depression in her younger days is no secret (not that she’s over the hill now). The actress has openly talked about it on various platforms to raise awareness about the issue.
The latest on that front is that a children’s book titled The Dot That Went for A Walk is being published, in which stories of 31 successful Indian women, including Deepika P’s, will be told in order for kids to understand ‘women power’.
Her story, we hear, will not shy away from talking about her mental health struggles. We think it’s a timely step, and that’s the way to go about teaching important issues to the younger lot.
CARIBBEAN QUEEN AND KING
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas hardly got time to think about their honeymoon after their much talked-about and publicised marriage last month because of the umpteen parties that they had to throw or attend.
Finally, the couple is off to their honeymoon and, if the pictures that Nick J is posting on social media are anything to go by, they are enjoying the sunny beaches of the West Indies.
Good on you two. Will Nick J’s next song be a reggae track?
THE MALAIKA AFFAIR
Salman Khan and Arjun Kapoor are no more friends. In fact, the former has told the chowkidars of his house to not allow the latter to enter it … ever. Why? Arjun K is these days dating Malaika Arora, the former wife of Sallu mian’s brother, Arbaaz Khan. Prior to that, he went out with Sallu mian’s sister Arpita (much before her marriage) and broke up with her after a short while. Insiders say Arjun A had once assured Sallu mian that he wouldn’t do anything to invite the ire of the Khan family. Well, he’s done it. And the Khans aren’t happy. Poor Arjun K, caught between the beauty and a potential beast.
Atif Aslam received a great many commendatory comments when he presented his version of Tajdar-i-Haram on Coke Studio. That was a little while ago. Now the singer has come out with another song that has spiritual moorings. It’s called Auliya and it’s for an upcoming Indian movie titled Hum Chaar. To be honest, the lyrics to the track leave much to be desired (faisla le le, hosla de de etc) — they lack the phraseology that’s required for a Sufi composition, which has made the song sound like a typical Bollywood number. Nothing utterly wrong with that. But it’s time Atif A realised that all good artists shy away from monotony, because just as variety is the spice of life, it is also the spice of art.
THE AGE FACTOR
Pooja Bhatt has a complaint, and we think it’s a valid one. The actor/director, who is currently working on Sarrak 2, has said in an interview, “One thing I do not see happening is women of a certain age being represented correctly. We have to evolve conceptually. Men don’t age in India. Women who are younger than them are suddenly seen in the role of a mum.” Spot on, Pooja B! Times area-changing, though. Shah Rukh Khan played a 38-year-old in Zero, and we all know that the film lived up to its name.
LOST ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
Ever since a documentary has revealed the details of former basketball player and singer R Kelly’s several acts of sexual misconduct, the world of showbiz is once again abuzz with the importance of the #MeToo movement. But something strange also happened which has to do with supermodel Cara Delevigne. She watched the docu on Jan 10 and wrote a comment on Instagram highlighting that she was shocked and outraged at how long that (sexual exploitation) went on. One would have expected everyone to appreciate her comment. Instead, she lost 50,000 followers. What? Weird is the word that springs to mind. Instasham!
