ISLAMABAD: The United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID), running its biggest overseas programme in Pakistan, has reached a milestone in its education programme benefiting 10 million children in primary schools in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over a period of eight years.

In the backdrop of growing population and poverty in Pakistan, the DFID’s spending in Pakistan is just a drop in the ocean, the head of DFID Pakistan, Joanna Reid, said while speaking to journalists here.

Commenting on the results of the education programme, Ms Reid said that “a well-educated population boosts the economy and offers a brighter future for children, especially the poorest and the most marginalised”.

“We have achieved the results by working in partnership with the governments of Punjab and KP. We will not rest until every single child goes to school and gets the quality of education they deserve,” she said.
