School curriculum

Published January 17, 2019

THERE is much talk about the uniformity of curriculum these days. While 18th Amendment grants the autonomy to provinces, at the same time, though indirectly, it allows different curriculums too.

The National Curriculum 2006 is being followed by the federal board and its textbook board. On the other hand, provincial boards have internal disparities.

Within Punjab, the Rawalpindi board is different, though not completely, from the Lahore, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur boards, etc. Examinations are less challenging owing to rote learning and predictability through the pairing of chapters. The tuition mafia here is in favour of no change.

The ratio of failure in professional entry tests of the provincial board is higher compared to federal and international boards.

We must follow one standard of examination. The government should also set up sub-offices of the federal board in other cities and remote areas for better management.
