THE National Savings Scheme’s branches all over the country present a pathetic picture of long queues of senior citizens holding tokens in hand, and waiting for hours to be paid profit from whatever scheme in which they have invested. One fails to understand why the NSC insists on continuing to do business in an archaic and obsolete manner in this era of information technology.
Another government institution, the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution is disbursing pensions to hundreds of thousands of senior citizens all over Pakistan through the branches of private banks. Why can’t a similar system be introduced for senior citizens who have invested in NSC schemes?
The finance minister should look into the matter.
