TAXILA: An ASI was killed during an operation against drugs mafia in Sector G-14 in Wah Cantt police area on Thursday.

Sub-divisional Police Officer of Taxila circle, DSP Javaid Hassan, while talking to mediapersons here on Friday said a team of Wah Cantonment Police led by ASI Mohammad Riaz raided a house located in sector G-14 where narcotics den was operating on Thursday evening.

He said that on seeing the police party, the drugs sellers opened fire on police party resultantly ASI Riaz received bullet in his chest.

He said the injured cop was rushed to POF Hospital in critical condition where he died on Friday.

The DSP said the den was being operated by three brothers who were already behind after they were arrested selling drugs in the area.

The funeral prayers of the ASI was offered at district police lines which was attended by Regional Police officer Fayyaz Ahmed, city police officer Abbass Ahsan besides other senior officers and was buried at his native graveyard near Gujar Khan.

Mohammad Riaz joined the police in 1995 as constable and promoted to ASI rank after passing departmental examinations. He was 42 years old and was survived by his wife, three daughters and two sons.
