KARACHI: A lawmaker from Lyari associated with the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) announced here on Friday that he was launching a protest drive against “massive corruption” in funds for the uplift schemes of the old city.

MPA Syed Abdul Rasheed said at a press conference in Lyari that he would organise an ‘Ehtisab Caravan’ against the politicians and bureaucrats who had devoured billions of rupees funds released for development schemes in Lyari, which remained a backward downtown locality till this day.

He said the protest drive would be started from Jan 18 culminating in a large sit-in on the Sharea Faisal on Jan 29.

He demanded recovery of the looted public funds.
