HYDERABAD, Jan 11: The Sindh Agriculture University Teachers’ Association (SAUTA), Tando Jam, at a meeting held here on Friday taken exception to the appointment of Dr Nazir Hussain Leghari as the dean, faculty of Agricultural Engineering, and appealed to the Sindh Governor to review the appointment of Dr Leghari as this had created unrest among the senior faculty members in particular and the teaching community in general.

The resolution which was unanimously adopted by the SAUTA executive council said that “the appointment of Dr Nazir Hussain Leghari as the dean, faculty of Agricultural Engineering, is not according to the provisions of the Sindh Agriculture University Act 1977.

The executive council appeals to the Governor Sindh/ Chancellor to review the appointment of Dr Nazir Hussain Leghari as this appointment has created unrest in the senior faculty members in particular and teaching community in general”.

Three senior professors namely Mohammad Saleh Soomro, Dr Bherulal T. Devrajani and Dr Nisar Ahmed Memon, in a joint application to the SAUTA president had raised the issue claiming that they had been superseded by a junior professor in the appointment of the dean faculty of Agriculture Engineering.

They claimed that they had been appointed full-fledged professor in 1995 while Dr Nazir Hussain Leghari who was at number four in order of seniority was appointed professor in 1997.

Quoting from the university act, they claimed “the dean of each faculty shall be appointed by the Chancellor on the recommendations of the Vice Chancellor from amongst three most senior professors in the faculty for a period of three years”.

They, however, said that the vice chancellor for the reasons best known to him has recommended the name of Dr Nazir Hussain Leghari, who is at number four in the seniority list to the honourable Chancellor for appointment as the dean ignoring three senior professors of the faculty.

They said that it was violation of the university act and denial of the rights and privileges of the senior sitting professors. They pleaded that these facts should be brought to the notice of the Chancellor.
