KARACHI: International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank Group, and the Pakistan Business Council (PBC) hosted an awards conference on Monday, recognising businesses that have worked to reduce gender gap in the workforce.

The event marks a year-long IFC-PBC partnership to boost women employment.

The IFC/PBC Employer of Choice for Gender Balance Awards were bagged by Telenor Pakistan which won the Gold Award, whilst Serena Hotels, was awarded the Silver award and Habib Bank Ltd the Bronze award.

PBC Executive Director Fuad Hashimi said that “our survey on gender diversity in Pakistan’s businesses last year illustrated just how far off many organisations were in this regard. Centre of Excellence in Responsible Business recommendations included measuring the pay gap, developing leadership pipeline, equity in promotions, and working on better retention, especially post-marriage.
